Eurostat: Unemployment at 16 percent

SLOVAKIA'S unemployment rate in November stood at 16 percent, which is the second highest rate in the European Union after Poland, according to a report by the EU statistics office Eurostat.

The Polish rate was 17.4 percent, while the lowest rates were in Ireland with 4.3 percent, Denmark with 4.5 percent, and The Netherlands with 4.7 percent.

The average unemployment rate in the whole of the EU was 8.5 percent, down by 0.5 percent year-on-year.

Eurozone unemployment stood at 8.3 percent in November 2005, also down 0.5 percent year-on-year, the TASR news agency wrote.
