After holding talks in early April with EC President José Manuel Barroso in Brussels, Fico stated, as quoted by TASR, that “the European Union is planning to provide over €100 million to Slovakia but our experts have calculated that more than €400 million will be needed”.

“The [EU’s] 2014-2020 financial perspective envisages a specific sum to help Slovakia decommission these two units,” Fico stated, as quoted by TASR, but added that this is far from sufficient to meet the requirements of this “highly complicated process”.

Fico asked the EC to reassess the amount it had allocated, stating, as quoted by TASR, “that otherwise Slovakia cannot provide guarantees that this process will take place”.
