The company with the highest reported profit for 2021 is U.S. Steel Košice.
The firm earned a profit of €648.2 million. At the same time, the steelworks were named the largest payer of corporate income tax, €152.7 million, the FinStat company has said.
Until recently, it was the eustream company, a gas carrier, that had paid the most on this tax.

Compared to 2020, when the amount of payable tax decreased by 0.89 percent year-on-year, FinStat recorded an increase in payable tax on the analysed sample of 250,000 Slovak companies that submitted financial statements for 2021, by up to 30.3 percent, Miriama Pudišová of FinStat told the TASR news agency.
According to her, the first 100 largest payers paid a total of 43.5 percent of the total amount of tax due, €3.4 billion.
U.S. Steel Košice had the largest year-on-year increase in payable tax and its sales compared to 2020 increased by 110 percent to almost €3.6 billion.
Energy firms and banks
Another company with significant year-on-year growth in payable tax is the Slovnaft refinery, which went from a loss of €81 million to a profit of €253 million and paid €50 million in taxes.
Kia Slovakia also moved up in the ranking, whose payable tax was €61 million.
SPP Infrastructure, an integrated gas utility, also features on the list of the most profitable firms alongside the Slovenský Plynárenský Priemysel energy supplier, the banks Slovenská Sporiteľňa and Tatra Banka, Volkswagen Slovakia, and the Stredoslovenská Energetika energy supplier.
