Footwear maker Gabor boosts output in Slovakia

The German footwear company Gabor plans to build a new plant in the northern Slovak town of Liptovský Mikuláš. Until the time it is built in 2001, the production of uppers will continue in rented production units at Kožiarské Závody. For the time being the German company is represented in Slovakia by Gabor Slovensko, based in Bánovce nad Bebravou.

Gabor representatives are holding talks with municipality officials in Liptovský Mikuláš. After the construction of the new production unit, the number of Gabor employees in Liptovský Mikuláš should swell by 220 to 500, producing 4,250 pairs of uppers per day for the Gabor plant in Austria.

Gabor AG has been operating in Slovakia since 1996. The affiliation in Bánovce nad Bebravou employs 700 people. The daily production of this unit amounts to 5,000 pairs of uppers. Half of this volume is used for production of footwear in Bánovce nad Bebravou while the whole footwear production is exported. Gabor started operation in Liptovský Mikuláš in September 1997.
