THE LAW on gambling will lose the special category of ‘casino in a recreational complex’, after an amendment to that effect was approved by parliament on December 8.

The ‘casino in a recreational complex’ category created a preferential tax regime in the law after it was amended by the previous finance minister, Smer nominee Ján Počiatek. The law also introduced regressive levies.

The current Finance Ministry suggested omitting this special category of casino, as well as the granting of a special kind of individual licence, from the law with the aim of unifying the terms of operation for all casinos, the SITA newswire reported.

The government's programme statement obliges the government to return the legislation regulating hazard and gambling to its pre-2009 state.

The entire coalition supported revision of the law on gambling.

However, Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) deputies made clear they do not oppose a casino complex as such, but object only to the deformation of the tax system to support it.
