Gap between east and west deepens

MOST foreign investments entering the country are heading to the western and northwestern regions. Infrastructure and other construction projects are adjusting to this development, while the gap between the eastern and western parts of the country is growing, writes the daily SME.

The Prešov and Košice regions are among the 10 poorest regions of the countries entering the EU in May. Mayors and officials of eastern towns and villages have complained that the government is too west-oriented. Officials also worry that the latest foreign investments to the automotive industry will only deepen this trend.
