JOHNSON Controls, one of the biggest global suppliers to the automotive industry, announced in late December a plan to move its accounting centre from Juarez, Mexico, to Bratislava.
“We will be the first and only supplier with a global accounting centre in Europe,” Astrid Schafmeister, spokesperson of Johnson Controls told the Hospodárske Noviny daily in December.
The strategic position in the region, the presence of three carmakers as well as reduction of costs led the American giant to move its accounting centre to Bratislava. According to Schafmeister, this change will enable the company to improve the level of services for internal and external customers, increase transparency and reduce costs.
The move will establish a global accounting centre in Bratislava and place all global accounting services for Johnson Controls’ automotive business into one location. The phased transition is expected to be completed in July, the company wrote on its website.
According to Schafmeister, more than 130 new jobs will be created in Bratislava.
At the end of 2009, Johnson Controls employed 3,730 people in Slovakia. Apart from Bratislava and the technology centre in Trenčín, most employees work in production plants in Lozorno, Lučenec, Martin, Námestovo and Žilina.
