Globtel, one of two mobile phone operators in Slovakia, reported 906,716 active clients as of June 30, 2001. Compared with H1 2000, its total number of active clients rose by 434,542. The firm has also seen a 47% increase in client numbers since the start of this year.
According to Globtel figures, mobile phone penetration rates in Slovakia at the end of June were 29.9%.
The majority shareholder in Globtel is France Telecom with a 64% stake. The state recently sold a 36% stake in the company to a consortium led by insurance giant AIG.
