When The Slovak Spectator was established in 1995, Slovakia was enduring international isolation due to the autocratic regime of Vladimír Mečiar. We supported our readers through those turbulent times with stories and information.
Not a single soul thought we would be here informing people of Slovakia when it joined the European Union in 2004, entered the eurozone in 2009 or even survived Covid-19 pandemic. No matter what government is in power, no matter how they may fight the media or undermine democratic principles, we remain here to fulfill our mission.

After 29 years, The Slovak Spectator is one of the main sources of information for foreigners and business owners in the English language in Slovakia.
The Best of Collection
For 348 months, or 29 years, The Slovak Spectator has grown, changed, and cooperated with many talented and ambitious people, but one thing has stayed the same throughout – our readers have received the best collection of trusted stories.
Three years ago we introduced our redesigned news digest, where our readers can find all the most important information in less than five minutes. Not only can they read about daily news in Slovakia, but also about all the events for foreigners, business stories, and even travel virtually with our editors all around the country.

Your opinion matters
“I love reading the Slovak Spectator, especially its news digest, because there I can find in one place all of the relevant news about daily life in Slovakia. Being an expat myself it helps a lot being able to read it in English and be in the loop also about all of the cultural activities happening.” – Aleksandar
“I read the Spectator because it connects me as a foreigner to Slovakia.” – Zoltan
“As an English teacher, I often choose to read the news in The Slovak Spectator to improve my vocabulary about current political affairs, which helps me in my daily work.” – Andrea
