Slovak imports were 232.87 billion Sk in the first eight months of 1997, which is an annual increase of 10.1 percent. The highest increases were seen in imports from Germany (by 17.1 percent), Ukraine (by 93.6 percent) and the USA (by 40.1 percent). The greatest decline was seen in imports from South Korea and Russia. The largest share of imports came from the Czech Republic (22.9 percent), followed by Russia (15.7 percent) and Germany (15.5 percent). Imports from EU countries made up 75.3 percent of total Slovak imports and increased 12.1 percent p.a.
