THE TAX administration received over 960,000 income tax returns for 2009 before the deadline of March 31. Of these, business entities submitted almost 103,200 tax returns. But in early April the Tax Directorate announced that this number was not final as tax offices were still processing tax returns they had received by mail. Moreover, another 32,000 entities submitted tax returns later. In total the Tax Directorate expects to receive 1.1 million tax returns.
Compared to 2009, the number of entities applying for an extension in submitting tax returns increased this year, the Pravda daily wrote. According to Tax Directorate spokesperson Miroslav Dobák, tax offices allowed 17,010 private individuals to submit later tax returns. Among corporate entities 15,871 submitted late.
The total number of delayed returns increased from 20,354 in 2009 to 32,881 in 2010.
Tax offices can allow private individuals to submit their tax returns three or six months later. The latter option is valid for taxpayers, either private individuals and corporate entities, with income from abroad. After a change in legislation, corporate entities did not need to apply for a later date tax return submission; it was enough that they informed the Tax Directorate that they would submit a late tax return.
Tax offices expect all postponed tax returns to be submitted by the end of September.
