AFTER a year and a half in power the government is lagging behind in fulfilling its pre- and post-election promises on higher quality, greater accessibility and security of transport, according to an analysis by the Institute for Economic and Social Reforms (INEKO).
According to the analysis, the fulfilment rate of transport-related pledges is 12 percent, and the contribution to the country is 0.6 on a grade scale from minus 3 to plus 3.
The analysis highlights the public announcement of unrealistic promises, the lack of a clear vision and the inability of ministers to manage demanding projects from financial and organisational viewpoints.
INEKO told the SITA newswire that the diametric change in pre- and post-election statements by Prime Minister Robert Fico and Transport Minister Ľubomír Vážny on highway construction via public-private partnership (PPP) projects exemplifies this.
According to the analysis, fewer funds are going to highways, Bratislava airport is developing more slowly and more people are dying in road accidents.
