THE INFLATION rate in October 2009 was the lowest ever recorded, according to data from the Slovak Statistics Office which reported that the rate was 0.4 percent y-o-y, a further deceleration from September’s previously historical low of 0.6 percent, the SITA newswire wrote.
In a year-on-year comparison, prices of alcoholic drinks and tobacco increased the most (up 8 percent), SITA wrote. On the other hand, prices of food and soft beverages dropped the most in comparison with September 2009, dropping by 5.7 percent.
Consumer prices went up by 0.1 percent on a monthly basis. Slovakia’s core inflation, which measures consumer prices excluding regulated prices and administrative interventions through tax levels, was minus 0.8 percent in October, compared with minus 0.6 percent in September, SITA reported.
