Inflation remained stable in May

INFLATION in Slovakia measured according to EU methodology stood at 0.7 percent year-on-year in May 2010, the same figure as in April, the Slovak Statistics Office reported. Over the previous 12 months, inflation averaged 0.3 percent, the TASR newswire wrote.

In May, prices grew most rapidly in the category of alcohol and tobacco (by 7.6 percent), followed by those in health-care services and education (4.5 percent). The biggest year-on-year drop was registered in the prices of furniture, household equipment and routine maintenance (-3.8 percent). Prices in May grew by 0.1 percent month-on-month, mainly due to price increases in food, non-alcoholic beverages and transport.

Inflation calculated according to national methodology, as reported by the Statistics Office, fell from 1.3 percent year-on-year in April to 1.2 percent in May.
