Inspectors find 1,693 illegal workers in 2005

THE NATIONAL Labour Inspectorate (NIP) uncovered 1,693 illegal workers in the country last year, 1,074 of whom were employed by private individuals and 538 of whom were working for limited liability companies.

"Companies in industrial manufacturing employed 279 illegal workers, while 430 worked illegally in the retail sector," reads the NIP report. The inspectorate checked 44,578 people in total, focusing on employers with up to 49 employees. The total fines imposed were Sk6.2 million (€160,000), the SITA news agency wrote.
