GEFCO has emerged on the Slovak market as an expert in supply-chain management; it also offers a range of high-quality logistics services under one roof. To transport goods, GEFCO increasingly uses intermodal transport, which combines road, rail, sea, and air transport. “Road and rail transport in central and eastern Europe has received the green light. Thanks to its advantageous geographical location, Slovakia is currently connected to international direct lines which connect the east of Europe with its western part, and make up part of a corridor of penetration into strategic zones like Russia, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan,” said Milan Majtán, business and marketing manager of GEFCO SLOVAKIA.
Sea transport is mainly used for imports from Asia, especially China and Hong Kong, but the US, India, Japan, Korea or Taiwan are also attractive destinations for this mode of transport. Many companies that import or export goods into third countries use sea transport to optimise costs. When goods are urgent, air transport becomes a priority.
“With current trends, sea and air transport have become inevitable parts of logistic processes – and they are very attractive thanks to their price. In terms of air transport, we have recently used a regular, direct air link (using a Boeing 747) from Shanghai to Frankfurt. We offer our clients the opportunity to move various sizes of goods, from small components to oversize consignments,” Majtán said.
“We are linked to Frankfurt through several lines, so we can guarantee quick delivery of goods door-to-door throughout the whole of Slovakia. Of course, this is true also the other way round – we can manage the quick pick-up of goods in Slovakia and their delivery to the desired destination in Asia,” he added.
