UNEMPLOYMENT in Slovakia decreased by 0.25 percentage points to 9.2 percent in February, Vladimír Haško from the Labour Office statistics department said on March 20.
Compared to February 2006, the jobless rate fell by 2.46 percentage points, and was at its second-lowest level since 1997.
"In the long term, we are witnessing a falling trend in unemployment. It hasn't exceeded 30 percent in any of Slovakia's districts since June 2004, with the only exception being the Rimavská Sobota district (Banská Bystrica region)," said Haško.
The regions with the highest unemployment were Banská Bystrica at 15.81 percent, Košice at 15.02 percent and Prešov at 13.28 percent.
The Labour Office statistics department expects unemployment to keep falling in March. Under ideal conditions, it may break the nine-percent level.
