June car sales hit 1999 high; Škoda still on top

In June, a record 8,672 new cars were sold in Slovakia, of which 605 were commercial vehicles. Sales of cars swelled 38.3% in comparison with May, while sales of commercial vehicles were up 30.7%.

The June sales figure was the highest this year, bettering the March total of 6,994 new cars sold, the Automotive Industry Association in Slovakia said on July 13.

During the monitored period, Škoda was the most demanded car make in Slovakia with a 54% market share on 5,156 cars and 169 commercial vehicles sold. Daewoo was second with 699 cars and 68 commercial vehicles, followed by Renault (396 units), Volkswagen (348 units), and Opel (299 units).

In 1998 68,949 new cars were sold in Slovakia, up 11.06% year-on-year.
