AN UNNAMED businessman from Banská Bystrica is interested in buying the as yet unsold land on the KIA car plant site near Žilina. The owners of the remaining land have refused to sell their plots to the state because they say the price is too low.

According to Žilina mayor Ján Slota, the businessman is offering Sk350 per square metre instead of the Sk150 offered by the state. If landowners agree to sell their plots to the Bystrica businessman, he would then swap it with the national land fund (SPF) for another piece of land near Banská Bystrica, where he already owns some land, the TASR news agency wrote.

The deal would help resolve the problems surrounding the deal since KIA announced its investment in Slovakia. If Žilina received the cabinet's approval to go ahead with this plan, an agreement regarding the matter could be reached before December 15, Slota said.
