Košice airport served 92,063 passengers in the first three months of this year, which represents an increase of 20 percent, or 15,230 passengers year-on-year, the airport’s marketing manager Juraj Tóth told the TASR newswire.
The number of aircraft arrivals and departures rose by 37 percent y-o-y to 2,295. In March alone, the airport handled 33,065 passengers, 17 percent more than in March 2017, TASR wrote on April 3.
“We started this year very positively, with a 20-percent growth in the number of processed travellers in the first quarter,” the airport’s CEO and board chairman Michal Tmej said, as quoted by TASR, when commenting on the 1Q figures. “This is the second best beginning of the year in the history of Košice airport. This growth can chiefly be ascribed to our latest network carriers, particularly LOT Polish Airlines and Turkish Airlines. The two companies posted a significant growth in the number of transported passengers compared to 1Q17, thus confirming a growing demand for flying from our region to all over the world.”
Passengers will be able to fly for their summer holidays from Košice to 10 countries and 18 destinations, TASR cited Tóth. These are: Antalya, Barcelona, Burgas, Ercan, Heraklion, Hurghada, Corfu, Lamezia Terme, Larnaca, Marsa Alam, Monastir, Palma de Mallorca, Olbia, Patras, Rijeka, Rhodos, Thessaloniki and Tirana.
