KOŠICE, Slovakia’s second city, will become a European Capital of Culture (ECOC) next year. Košice-based software company NESS KDC, one of the founding members of the Koalícia 2013+ grouping launched to support the Košice – ECOC 2013 project, has developed a mobile application enabling users to get updates about events organised as part of the project. Along with information about events it can navigate visitors to the places where they are taking place.
“NESS KDC has a strong interest in the project’s success and in drawing the attention of Europeans to our city,” Andrea Bilá, manager of operations and marketing at NESS KDC, told The Slovak Spectator. “This fact started an initiative, from which the Košice – European Capital of Culture 2013 application arose.”
In mid October the company introduced an application for mobiles and tablets running the Android operating system. By the end of the year it also wants to develop a version for mobile phones and tablets running Apple’s iOS operating system, i.e. the iPhone and iPad. The application is available in English as well as Slovak.
The idea of developing the application arose directly within the NESS KDC team. The City of Košice welcomed the proposal and supplied the company with the necessary data, according to Bilá. NESS KDC is currently working on improving it and on adding new functions that have been proposed by early users, via feedback.
NESS KDC is developing other mobile applications too, and as much as 95 percent of its services are provided to foreign clients.
