The Košice Regional Office and the Teacher's Labor Unions to date have not signed a collective agreement for 1997, according to the daily Národná Obroda.
According to the unionists, the regional office refuses to sign the agreement for technical reasons, and its aim is to strengthen the position of the new labor union, VŠOZ (Free Labor Unions), considered close to the ruling Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS).
"There is strong pressure on the teachers from the state administration to enter the new labor unions," said a lawyer for the teacher's union.
