THE SLOVAK government recently agreed to recover $365 million from a debt of $1.1 billion still owed to Slovakia by Russia and dating back to Soviet times.
It is the largest yearly recovery in Slovak history, and includes a $14 million cash payment and a three-way 'swap' of goods with Russia and Vietnam in a nominal value of $185 million. As in the past, most of the debt figure will be paid down in exports of energy raw materials and military equipment to Slovakia.
