Total Slovak exports were 144.575 billion Sk in the first half of 1997, 12.9 percent more than a year ago. Imports were 177.328 billion Sk, which is a 12.6 percent annual increase.
Trade with Russia marked the largest deficit (22.9 billion Sk, or $658m), while Slovakia recorded deficits also in trading with OECD countries (8.934 billion Sk, or $257m) and EU countries (4.577 billion Sk, or $131m). In contrast, Slovakia ran a trade surplus with CEFTA countries (4.9 billion Sk, or $141m). Slovakia's largest trade partner still is the Czech Republic where 23.5 percent of Slovak exports are destined and 27.7 percent of imports originate.
