The 2016 Brexit referendum has affected the number of job ads, in which employers and agencies hire Slovaks to work in the United Kingdom, the Profesia.sk job portal revealed.
"After the referendum, that means in the third quarter of 2016, we recorded 216 job offers in the UK," said Nikola Richterová, spokesperson for Profesia.sk, as quoted by the SITA newswire.
Two years after the referendum, the number of jobs in the UK published on the website fell by roughly 65 percent.
"There were 49 job offers in this country between November and December 2018," Richterová added, as quoted by SITA.
No interest in UK jobs
In addition, Slovaks are more reluctant to work in the UK. While they applied for jobs in the UK by sending more than 4,000 CVs via Profesia.sk in the second quarter of 2016, the figure dropped to 2,917 in the following quarter of 2016.
The number keeps dropping.
"In the third quarter of 2018, there were 1,238 responses to job offers in the UK on Profesia.sk," Richterová said, as quoted by SITA, adding this will equate to a fall of 58 percent in two-years’ time.
