MEN purchase life insurance more often than women.
“The ratio is about 60 percent to 40 percent in favour of men,” Petra Mušková, product manager of ING Životná Poisťovňa, a life insurer in Slovakia, reported in mid March, as quoted by the SITA newswire.
Allianz - Slovenská Poisťovňa and Kooperativa, two other companies offering life insurance, also reported that they sell more than half of their policies to men.
The insurers said the conventional wisdom is that women behave more conservatively and take fewer risks than men.
“Women are generally more careful, which may be linked to their roles as mothers,” stated Branislav Jendroľ, the head of Generali’s life insurance department, as quoted by SITA. “On the other hand, men sometimes rush heedlessly into various dangerous situations. Women account for a 40-percent share of accident insurance policies compared with 60-percent for men, whose probability of an accident is statistically higher.”
