RegioJet trains start Komárno run. The first privately-owned passenger trains of RegioJet, a subsidiary of the Czech Student Agency company operating solely within Slovakia, launch services on the route between Komárno and Bratislava.
Smer wins landslide victory in general election. Robert Fico’s Smer wins the parliamentary elections, receiving 44.41 percent of the votes, taking 83 seats in the 150-seat house. Five other parties clear the 5-percent threshold needed to win parliamentary representation. The landslide victory enables Smer to form a one-party government with Robert Fico as prime minister.
