Slovakia faces the first drop in consumer prices. For the first time in its history, prices in Slovakia dropped compared to the previous year. Inflation measured using the national methodology stood at -0.1 percent in February, with core inflation at 0.3 percent and net inflation at 0.2 percent, the Statistics Office announced on March 12. Analysts ascribed the drop in prices to falling prices of food.
Slovakia to produce Cayenne SUV. For the first time, Porsche will produce one of its vehicles completely outside Germany. The entire production of the next generation of the Cayenne SUV, a vehicle that currently accounts for about half of the company’s sales, will move to Bratislava after 2016. Currently, the vast majority of the Cayenne’s parts are made in Bratislava, but the final assembly is done at the company’s workshop in Leipzig.
Large investments to get aid more easily. Companies investing at least €200 million in Slovakia will no longer have to wait for the government to approve their request for state incentives as of May due to an amendment passed in parliament on March 25. One of companies benefiting from this change was the chemical company Duslo Šaľa of tycoon and Czech Finance Minister Andrej Babiš. The aid still has to be approved by the European Commission.
