COMPLETING the health care and education reforms is the priority of Finance Minister Ivan Mikloš for 2004.

The state news agency TASR wrote on January 16 that, according to Mikloš, the first parts of the reforms in both areas were already made but more had to be done this year to finish the transformation.

Mikloš said that in health care six crucial laws must still be approved.

In the financial sphere, Mikloš wants to continue to increase the transparency of state bills and fiscal decentralisation and to lower the public finance deficit.

The administration of taxes should be improved, according to the minister.

The Finance Ministry also wants to complete the tax reform with the passage of several new laws, including one on the real estate tax.

Concerning the reform of the educational system, the funding of university studies is important "to improve the access of young people to education," the minister noted.
