SLOVAKIA has opened technology incubators in the eastern Slovak towns of Prešov and Spišská Nová Ves, raising the number of business-nurturing centres to seven. The construction of the incubator centre in Prešov cost Sk41 million (€1.01 million), Sk14.2 million (€349,300) of which came from the EU's PHARE programme. The state supplied Sk18.2 million (€447,700), and local authorities collected Sk8.1 million (€199,300), the state run TASR news agency reported.
The incubator in Spišská Nová Ves was also co-funded by PHARE. The centres aim to help new entrepreneurs start their businesses. Slovakia has incubators in Bratislava, Martin, Banská Bystrica, Rožňava, and Košice.
