More tax returns submitted this year

PRIVATE individuals and corporate entities submitted 458,700 income tax returns for the year 2005 by the March 31 deadline, an increase of 62,300 over the previous year.

Tax Directorate spokesman Robert Merva reported that corporate entities had submitted 41,294 income tax returns and private individuals 417,380. Of this number, employees submitted 177,301 tax returns.

The number of tax returns submitted by corporate entities increased by 5,800, while those from private individuals rose by 56,500, the SITA news agency wrote.

In total, corporate entities and private individuals declared income tax liabilities of Sk20.4 billion (€540 million), down from Sk22.1 billion in 2004.

As of 2004, Slovakia has had a flat income tax of 19 percent. The aggregate income tax declared by corporate entities shrank by over Sk6.7 billion to Sk9.7 billion in 2005.

On the other hand, the total income tax declared by employees increased by Sk266 million to Sk1.1 billion. Self-employed private individuals declared income tax of Sk9.7 billion, twice as much as in the previous year.
