THE M.R. Štefánik Airport in Bratislava is becoming a hub for truck shipments from Central Europe.

The DHL shipping and logistics company has shifted part of its express shipping operations from the Vienna airport to its terminal at the Bratislava airport, Kamila Mráziková of DHL Express (Slovakia) told the SITA newswire on September 18.

The company announced that truck shipments that would previously be sent through Vienna for processing - from Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, part of Romania and most of the Czech Republic - will now end up going through Bratislava.

"Thanks to this we have a modern international hub in Bratislava," said Marián Demko from DHL Express (Slovakia). "I expect that because of this change, we will be able to process several tens to hundreds of thousands more shipments each year."
