MOST internet users in Slovakia wouldn’t use internet sites if they were require to pay to access them, according to a late-June opinion poll carried out by Mediaresearch on 519 respondents, the TASR newswire wrote.
Nearly 90 percent of respondents said they expected news portals such as hnonline.sk – the online site of financial daily Hospodárske Noviny – and sme.sk – that of another Slovak daily, Sme – to begin charging for news items and especially for scoops, but said they did not think that all content would attract charges.
As many as 77 percent of readers of news sites said they would refuse to pay for access to news items because they could find similar or identical content via another free medium. Only 5 percent said that they would pay, while the remaining 17 percent said they would consider paying.
