Slovakia's overall gross foreign debt rose to $10.742 billion as of the end of April from $10.45 billion at the end of March, the central bank reported on July 28. Slovak foreign debt totalled $9.9 billion at the end of 1997. Combined government and central bank debt totalled $1.737 billion at the end of April after $1.73 billion in March. Foreign debt in the financial and corporate sector increased to $8.956 billion to the end of April from $8.671 billion in March. Municipal debt totalled $49 million, unchanged from March. The central bank said overall short-term gross foreign debt totalled $4.895 billion, up from $4.723 billion in March. Overall medium and long-term debt rose to $5.847 billion from $5.726 billion in the previous month. Slovakia's foreign debt per capita edged up to $2,000 from $1,972 in March.
