An extensive police raid took place in Slovakia on November 7 in connection with an alleged value added tax fraud of about €10 million. The Financial Directorate (FS) confirmed the nationwide police raid.
“We can confirm that this is a nationwide activity aimed against fraud with value-added tax when doing business in structural steel,” said Patrícia Macíková, spokesperson of the Financial Directorate, as cited by the TASR newswire. “The Financial Directorate has sent out dozens of people from its crime agency. It is not possible to disclose more information for now.”
The National Crime Agency (NAKA) launched the raid in the early hours of November 7 in Bratislava, Trnava, Košice, Banská Bystrica and other locations. Aktuality.sk website reported that the police are said to have already detained more than 20 suspects.
The raid is connected to a huge tax fraud case, due to which the state could have lost over €10 million, Aktuality.sk wrote.
