THE KOŠICE region is building an information technologies centre in the former military barracks in Košice.
US-Israeli developer Ness will be the first company to enter the centre when it opens its subsidiary, Ness Slovakia, on July 1, said Košice regional governor Rudolf Bauer.
He said that Ness would focus on developing cutting-edge software, the TASR news agency reported.
Košice regional authorities plan to seek more cash to complete the centre from the European Union's structural funds. So far, the Economy Ministry granted the region a subsidy of Sk25 million (€650,000).
The region is also working on another pilot project for a joint IT centre with the neighbouring Hungarian region of Borsod-Abauj-Zemplen. This will integrate and transfer IT technologies within two regions based on a partnership and cooperation agreement.
"We are looking to create conditions for entry of investors in the area of high-tech technologies that will boost the region's economic development and its competitiveness, create new jobs and reduce the brain drain of skilled experts," Bauer said.
