THE NEW terminal at Bratislava's M.R. Štefánik Airport was officially opened on Wednesday, June 9 and the facility should see its first airline passengers on June 10, the TASR newswire reported.
According to the Sme daily, only the Danube Wings low-cost air carrier will fly from the newly-opened terminal.
The terminal will be extended by the old terminal (used from 1970 until now) when its remodelling is completed sometime within the next 12 months and the airport's capacity will increase to 5 million travellers a year from its current capacity of 3.5 million.
The construction contractor for the project is ZIPP, which offered to complete the entire project for €85 million, Zdeněk Chraml, head of the airport management company, told TASR. He added that the total cost, including runways and other connector roads, is just under €96 million.
