THE NUMBER of new passenger cars and small utility vehicles registered in Slovakia in May this year fell 43.73 percent from a year ago, to 5,398 vehicles. The Slovak Automotive Industry Association announced that the expected decline in new registrations from a year ago had continued, though it was not as steep, the SITA newswire reported.
Last year, new car purchases were stimulated by two rounds of government car-scrapping subsidies.
In the January-May period, 24,971 vehicles were registered, almost 32 percent less than in 2009.
Škoda topped the chart of the best-selling passenger cars and small utility vehicles, with nearly 19 percent of the market. Volkswagen had around 7.7 percent, and the number three, Renault, held slightly less than 7 percent of the market.
