The National Highway Company (NDS) has officially launched the presale of a one-day electronic highway vignette for passenger cars to drive on highways and dual carriageways. Motorists can purchase the new type of highway vignette while it will become valid from August 1, 2024. Simultaneously, on August 1 the NDS will switch off the sale of annual highway vignettes. The 365-day, 30-day and 10-day highway vignettes will remain valid.

The NDS especially expects interest in the one-day vignettes on the part of foreign drivers who are just passing through Slovakia.

The one-day highway vignette will be valid on the date specified by the customer, until midnight. As in Austria, Hungary and Czech Republic, it will not be valid for 24 hours after purchase.

  • 30-day vignette - €17

  • 10-day vignette - €12

  • 1-day vignette - €5.4

The price for a one-day vignette is €5.40.

The second major change is the abolition of the sale of the annual highway vignette, which will be fully replaced by the 365-day vignette. However, the cancellation of the sale does not change the validity of those already purchased. They are valid until January 31, 2025.

In Slovakia, motor vehicle drivers pay for driving on the highways and dual carriage ways via two schemes. The drivers of passenger cars and motor vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes are obliged to pay for highways and dual carriageways via electronic vignettes. Trucks and buses above 3.5 tonnes are charged for kilometres driven under the electronic toll scheme.
