THE MOST recent entrant to Slovakia’s mobile telephone market, Telefónica Slovakia, officially launched data services on its own 3G network in mid July. Its 3G network covered 30 percent of the Slovak population at that time and was expected to rise to 33 percent by the end of August, the SITA newswire reported.
The network’s maximum transmission speed ranges from 512 kbps for the basic service package up to 1,024 kbps with extended packages but the maximum transmission speed falls to 16 kbps after the pre-paid data volume is consumed.
Telefónica Slovakia, which sells its services under the O2 brand, entered the Slovak mobile market on August 25, 2006. It had more than 1 million pre-paid and contract customers in the first half of 2011.
