Online advertising growth slows

THE GROWTH in internet-based advertising in Slovakia slowed slightly during the third quarter of 2011. Online advertising amounted to €9.6 million, up 12 percent from the third quarter of 2010 but less than the 22-percent growth recorded between the second quarter of 2010 and 2011.

The Interactive Advertising Bureau Slovakia (IAB Slovakia), the successor to the Association of Internet Media (AIM), reported that this trend may continue in forthcoming quarters and that a decline may even occur, the SITA newswire wrote at the end of last year.

Banner advertising remained the most popular kind of online advertising and it accounted for as much as 41 percent or €3.88 million of the total online advertising in the third quarter of 2011. Search advertising followed with 33.2 percent or €3.13 million and classified ads accounted for almost 18 percent or €1.7 million. Compared with the same period of 2010, all kinds of online advertising grew except for e-mail advertising, which fell by 36 percent.

Telecommunications companies invested the largest amount in internet-based advertising, accounting for 18 percent of ad expenditures. Car companies were second with an almost 16-percent share and financial service followed with nearly 15 percent.
