THOUGH the new dual carriageway between Nitra and Tekovské Nemce, built through a public-private partnership (PPP) project, has been finished, cars are not yet allowed to use it, and the Ministry of Transport has announced the date of opening has had to be postponed, the Sme daily reported.
“The concessionaire, Granvia, has not provided all the required documentation to the ministry, so the new expressway cannot be opened on September 28,” explained the ministry, as quoted by Sme.
Granvia representatives promised to finish the documentation as soon as possible.
“Together with the independent controller and public procurer we are finishing the process of finalising the documentation for about 500 constructed objects within the conditions of the contract signed between the concessionaire and the ministry,” Granvia chief executive Eric Delobel said, as quoted by the SITA newswire.
The postponement of the opening of the new sections of the R1, which will complete the multi-lane route between Bratislava and Banská Bystrica, was criticised by opposition Smer party leader Robert Fico as “a scandal”, the TASR newswire reported.
“The Slovak government has absolutely underestimated the extent of this construction, which requires considerably greater cooperation between the state bodies and those who built it,” Fico said, as quoted by TASR.
