All types of pensions were increased by 10 percent on July 1, 1997. The Social Insurance Company (SP) will cover the increase from its own sources, paying 2.4 billion Sk this year. There were 1,398,430 pensions paid in Slovakia at the end of April. The average pension was 45.4 percent of the average wage in the first quarter of 1997, amounting to 3,722 Sk.
