Pizza Hut, one of three divisions of the American firm Tricon Restaurants International, on October 22 opened its second restaurant in Slovakia, a 120 seater employing 55 people. It is located in the new Tesco hypermarket in the western Slovak city, and is the 92nd restaurant Pizza Hut has opened in central Europe.
Pizza Hut's Slovak Division GM Richard Lanczmann said he expected that the Nitra site would generate revenues of one million dollars by the end of this year. Next year, Pizza Hut plans to open three more restaurants - two in Bratislava and one in Košice. By the end of the year 2000, a pizza delivery service should supply more than 80% of the nation's capital with home-delivered pizza.
Lanczmann said that Pizza Hut buys 80% of its supplies locally, and wanted to increase that figure. The firm entered the Slovak market in 1997 with a restaurant in Bratislava.
Pizza Hut is the largest restaurant chain in the world, with approximately 12,000 restaurants in 86 countries. It employs 240,000 people and produces 11.5 million pizzas a day.
