PM Fico outlines vision for future energy policy

SLOVAKIA SUPPORTS activities that work toward the creation of a unified energy policy for the EU, said Prime Minister Robert Fico during Question Hour in parliament on May 17.

It bodes well for Slovakia that the EU recognizes the importance of nuclear energy with respect to reducing emissions, he explained.

"For Slovakia it means that secure nuclear energy, which has the full support of the Slovak government, is not taboo for Europe anymore, and this is an extremely positive and significant signal."

The government's priorities in terms of energy security are to guarantee self-sufficiency in electrical energy production, optimal pricing policies, ensuring a reliable and secure power supply, and confirming Slovakia's status as a transit country in the energy, gas and oil sectors.
