Poll: Slovaks slow to connect

ALMOST 50 percent of Slovaks do not work with computers at all, according to a poll by Slovak Radio's media and public opinion research section, the SITA news agency wrote.

According to the poll, as many as 47.7 percent of 3,353 respondents over 14 years old do not use computers at all.

Over 31 percent who use a computer said they most frequently used one at home. The poll, which was conducted at the end of May, also showed that 28.2 percent of respondents use computers at work and 13.3 percent in schools. Only 7.8 percent visit Internet cafes or clubs to gain computer access.

Of those who said they used computers, 85.3 percent also have Internet access. Most of them - 43 percent - connect to the Internet at work; 34.9 percent at home.

In schools only 24.2 percent of pupils and students use the Internet. Interest in electronic mail is high: 40 percent of respondents use e-mail seven times a day.
