THE INTERNATIONAL airport in Poprad has lost its last remaining commercial air carrier, at least for the winter months. Danube Wings airline cancelled its regular service between Poprad and Bratislava which was the airport’s last remaining scheduled route.
“In the summer we had routes to Poprad as connecting flights to seasonal flights to Croatia,” explained Jozef Bebiak from Danube Wings, as cited by the ČTK newswire. “Now these are over and the interest in local air transport is too small. Thus, we cancelled the regular flights to Poprad as we had originally planned.”
Bebiak said Danube Wings tried to keep Poprad on the active airport map and considered re-launching a regular route between Poprad and Warsaw during the winter season but no interest was shown by Polish tour operators.
