Real wages in Slovakia decreased in all sectors of the economy except transport and retail in the first half of 1999, according to figures released on August 5 by the Statistics Office.
Real wages (calculated by adjusting the nominal wage for inflation) decreased 10.7% in construction, 4% in wholesale, and 0.7% in industry from January through June.
Real wages increased in transport (3.4%) and in retail (2.5%).
The average nominal monthly wage in June, compared to the same month in 1998, was up 10.7% in transportation to 10,226 crowns ($250) followed by rises of 9.8% in retail, 6.4% in industry (to 10,445 crowns) and 2.8% in wholesale.
