THE NUMBERS of the first winning receipts in the state’s receipt lottery were drawn on September 30, but the state-run lottery company Tipos did not publish the names until October 2.

Consumers entered more than 7 million receipts into the state lottery in this initial drawing, and Tipos drew the first ten winners on September 30, the Sme daily reported.

The drawing was public, but the lottery company did not publish the numbers of the winning receipts immediately due to the fact that 20 more receipts were drawn as well, so as to be available to substitute some of the 10 winning numbers should tax auditors find any of them to be fake.

On October 1, tax authorities confirmed that all 10 winning receipts were genuine and announced the winning numbers. The absolute winner of the first round, who took €10,000, is the owner of a receipt issued by a Fresh Labaš retail chain store in Košice. Altogether seven winning receipts came from big retail chains, including Lidl, Kaufland, Billa and COOP Jednota.

This falls in line with what some critics of the lottery said before it was launched – that people would mainly register receipts from shops that do not have problems with issuing them.
