THE CZECH private railway carrier RegioJet has launched the sale of tickets for trains that will be running from Bratislava through Žilina to Košice as of December 14. The trains will run three times a day in both directions, the TASR newswire wrote.
The trains will operate on a commercial basis, without state subsidies. The company is already operating a state-subsidised route between Bratislava and Komárno.
The cheapest Košice-Bratislava ticket will cost €9 for Standard class. Higher classes then cost €18 for Relax class and €23.40 for Business class. A ticket for the same route on a bus operated by Student Agency currently costs €18, the Sme daily wrote.
State-run carrier ZSSK offers the tickets for IC trains in second class for €24. The price is lower if the passengers buy it sooner.
Sme also reported that ZSSK does not want to start a price war with RegioJet. ZSSK’s spokeswoman Jana Morháčová declined to comment on the prices of the tickets.
